THE BLUE HORIZON

Theater and illustration / All audiences from 8 years old

  • By : Dorothée Piatek and Yann Hamonic
  • Staging : Céline Garnavault
  • Creation : 2005
THE BLUE HORIZON is on networks:

In 1914, Pierre, a young teacher in northern France, goes to war, leaving his wife Elizabeth with the task of teaching. For four years, Pierre will face the terrible condition of soldiers, from the front, being wounded and taken prisoner. On her side, between solitude, anxiety, and deprivation, Elizabeth will also learn independence. The staging, between theater and slightly animated illustrations, is centered around the character of Elisabeth, who tirelessly waits every day for her husband's return. It is about taking a different look at the subjects addressed by the author and projecting another horizon onto the stage, not to fully unveil the book, but rather to accompany it and be a vector for transmitting this story of the Great War.

The show also existed in a reading - staged version for schools, libraries, and non-equipped spaces.

ABOUT THE BOOK

" Allows young readers to understand the disarray born from the collapse of a universe in the face of the madness of war. Because there is no age to instill the necessity of human dignity."  Le Monde

" It is undoubtedly the most beautiful illustrated album that has ever existed on the First World War. A moving album. " La Fnac

ABOUT THE SHOW

" Wonderfully interpreted by Sophie Vaslot (whose illustrator declares that she is HIS Elisabeth), the wife cannot resign herself to setting the table for only one person and putting away in the cupboard the clothes she has sewn for her husband, thus representing the hope of his return. With all its modesty and unspoken words, feelings are exposed, those of the wife in the sadness of waiting and the fear of occupation, and those of the husband in the horror and despair of battle. In the staging, Céline Garnavault chose to interrupt the show a little before the actual end of the album. Perhaps a way to encourage the audience to consult the book at the library to know the outcome.. " Le Courrier Picard, January 20, 2007

The play masterfully interpreted by Sophie Vaslot, and the staging, carefully constructed by Céline Garnavault, offered the students but also the present professors, a sober, refined yet breathtaking show: emotion grips the hearts from the beginning until the conclusion. Magnificent. " La Voix du Nord, October 25, 2008
